Overview
This guide walks you through setting up Okta Verify, Slack EMM, Email, and Calendar on a new phone. Use it when you have a new device, are resetting Okta MFA, or have lost access to your previous phone.
1. Resetting Okta MFA (Standard Flow with Access to Okta)
Use this flow if you can still sign in to Okta from a computer and want to register your new phone.
On your computer, open Google Chrome and go to:
https://samsara.okta.com/Sign in with your Okta credentials as usual.
Once logged in, click your name in the top‑right corner and select Settings from the dropdown.
- Scroll down to the Security Methods section. Here you’ll see all your enrolled authentication factors (e.g., Okta Verify, security keys, biometrics, etc.).
- Find Okta Verify in the list and select the option to add or set up another mobile smartphone.
- You will arrive at the following screen. Click Continue (Note if you are located in the UK, EU, or Quebec skip to the end).
- You will now be redirected to Incode and you will see a unique QR code. Scan the QR code using your new smartphone (tablets will not work for this step) and select the link to continue with Incode.
- You will be guided through the Incode setup process. Follow the instructions on your phone. For a seamless experience, we recommend checking our Best Practices for a smooth ID Verification for examples of valid IDs and tips for capturing a successful selfie.
- After successful completion of ID verification, you will now be guided to set up Okta Verify on your new mobile smartphone. For more information see Enrolling Alternative Multifactor Options in Okta.
Once Okta Verify is working on your new phone, return to Security Methods on Okta and:
Remove your old mobile smartphone from Okta Verify if you won’t be using it anymore.
While you’re here, consider enrolling alternative MFA options (e.g., Touch ID, Windows Hello, YubiKey, Google Authenticator) so you have backup factors in case you lose your phone again. You can follow the internal article “Enrolling Alternative Multifactor Options in Okta” for detailed steps.
2. Resetting Okta MFA When You’ve Lost Your Phone (No Other Factors Enrolled)
Use this flow if you no longer have access to your old phone and you don’t have any other MFA methods set up.
If you can still log into Okta, you do not need IT to reset your MFA (Okta Verify). Instead, follow this self-service guide:
Enrolling Alternative Multifactor Options in Okta.
