How to Set up your Samsara Chromebook

Setting up a new Chromebook has three separate stages, connect to Wifi before you begin.

Stage 1 - Powerwash

Power on your Chromebook. If you’re presented with a “Welcome to your Chromebook” screen like below, you can skip this section - please continue to the Stage 2 - Initial Setup

Prende tu Chromebook. Si te aparece en la pantalla la imagen que dice “Welcome to your Chromebook” puedes brincarte esta sección. Continúa a la Etapa 2 - Configuración inicial

If your Chromebook boots up to a sign in screen (either Samsara’s Okta screen or the Google sign in screen), please follow these steps to reset your Chromebook to factory settings first.

Si tu Chromebook muestra la pagina de inicio de sesión (ya sea de Samsara Okta o de Google), favor de seguir los siguientes pasos para que la Chromebook se regrese a la configuración de fábrica.

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R keys together. This will bring up the reset screen. Click “Restart to restart the device and prepare the Powerwash process.
 

Presione las teclas Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R juntos a la misma vez. Esto abrirá la pantalla de reinicio. Haga clic en "Restart" para reiniciar la computadora y preparar el proceso Powerwash(Re-inicio del Sistema operative).

2. After the restart, the Reset screen will pop up again. This time, click the “Powerwash” button and then click “Continue” to confirm you wish to erase the machine.
 

Después del reinicio, la pantalla Restablecer aparecerá nuevamente. Esta vez, haga clic en el botón "Powerwash" y luego haga clic en "Continue" para confirmar que desea borrar la computadora.

3. Proceed to the next section once your Chromebook is back at the startup screen.

Stage 2 Initial Setup

1. Follow the prompts on the screen to get started - you will be asked to connect to your Wi-Fi network and agree to Google’s terms of service.
 

Siga las indicaciones en la pantalla para comenzar: se le pedirá que se conecte a su red Wi-Fi y que acepte los términos de servicio de Google.

2. Next you'll come to a screen that asks “Who’s using this Chromebook”. Click on the “Enterprise enrollment” button on the bottom left of the screen. This step is critical - your Chromebook will not have access to company resources if you don't enroll it!

A continuación, llegará a una pantalla que pregunta "¿Quién está usando este Chromebook?". Haga clic en el botón "Enterprise enrollment" en la parte inferior izquierda de la pantalla. Este paso es critico: su Chromebook no tendrá acceso a los recursos de la empresa si no termina de registrarse.

3. Enter your Samsara email address at the sign in screen, then complete your sign-in with Okta. If you are a new hire, your credentials were provided to you in an email from it-onboarding@samsara.com  You may see a brief loading screen before getting a confirmation screen that Enterprise enrollment is complete. Click the Done button on this screen to proceed.
 

Ingrese su dirección de correo electrónico de Samsara en la pantalla de inicio de sesión, luego complete su inicio de sesión con Okta. Es posible que vea una breve pantalla de carga antes de obtener una pantalla de confirmación de que se completó la inscripción de Enterprise. Stage 3 - Signing In

To complete your Chromebook setup, follow these steps.

1. Sign in with your Okta credentials at the sign-in screen

2. On the sync page, click “Accept and continue.” This will sync all of your Google Chrome history, apps, settings, bookmarks, and more to and from other devices where you are signed in with your Samsara Google account.
 

En la página de sincronización, haga clic en “Accept and continue”. Esto sincronizará todo su historial, aplicaciones, configuraciones, marcadores y más de Google Chrome hacia y desde otros dispositivos en los que haya iniciado sesión con su cuenta de Google de Samsara.

3. If your Chromebook is equipped with a fingerprint reader, you will be prompted to set it up - please feel free to do so as this will make your logins a lot easier! If you don’t have a fingerprint reader on your Chromebook, you can skip this step.
 

Si su Chromebook está equipado con un lector de huellas digitales, se le pedirá que lo configure. ¡No dude en hacerlo, ya que esto hará que sus inicios de sesión sean mucho más fáciles! Si no tiene un lector de huellas digitales en su Chromebook, puede omitir este paso.

4. Now, you should be at the desktop. Click on the Zscaler icon (blue cloud) in the drawer at the bottom of the screen to open it. You will be asked to sign in with your Okta credentials. Once sign-in is complete, you’ll see the Zscaler “Private Access” turn to “ON” as shown here:
 

Ahora, deberías estar en el escritorio de la computadora. Haga clic en el ícono de Zscaler (nube azul) en el menu en la parte inferior de la pantalla para abrirlo. Troubleshooting: If Zscaler does not load and is stuck on a blank screen, double click the white bar at the very top of the screen and accept the VPN component to continue. See images below:

Solución: Si Zscaler no carga y se queda plasmado en una pantalla blanca, da “click” dos veces en la barra blanca en la parte superior de la ventana, y acepta el componente del VPN para continuar. Imagen de ejemplo:

5. Once Zscaler is connected and on, you may click the X in the top right corner to close out of the app - it will continue to run in the background and keep you connected to our internal applications.

Una vez que esté activado, puede hacer clic en la X en la esquina superior derecha para cerrar la aplicación; continuará ejecutándose en segundo plano y lo mantendrá conectado a nuestras aplicaciones internas.

6. Setup is now complete! If you are a new hire, please wait until your first day to access any applications. We have a few more tips for you if this is your first time using a Chromebook.

• BizTech and Enterprise Security have pre-configured some common apps to install and pin to the drawer at the bottom of your screen such as Slack and Zoom. You may install other Chrome extensions as needed such as RingCentral from the Chrome Web Store just like you would on a Mac or PC.

• Closing the lid will lock the Chromebook and put it to sleep, and we use a 10 minute screensaver idle timer as well. There’s no need to use the “Sign out” button in the drawer on a routine basis - simply close the lid if you are walking away from your machine.
   

  Cerrar la tapa del Chromebook la enllava  y lo pondrá en suspensión, y también usamos un temporizador de inactividad de protector de pantalla de 10 minutos. No es necesario usar el botón "Cerrar sesión" en el menu de manera rutinaria; simplemente cierre la tapa si se aleja de su computadora.

• Chromebooks can have smaller hard drives as most files should be stored in the cloud. However, you are still able to download files from the browser as usual. Once your hard drive reaches 80% full, the oldest files you’ve downloaded will automatically delete themselves to make more space. If you are working with important files that you download, please ensure that you are uploading them to Google Drive or the proper long-term storage app.
   

  Las computadoras Chromebook pueden tener discos duros más pequeños, ya que la mayoría de los archivos deben almacenarse en la nube. Sin embargo, aún puede descargar archivos desde el navegador como de costumbre. Una vez que su disco duro alcance el 80% de su capacidad, los archivos más antiguos que haya descargado se eliminarán automáticamente para hacer más espacio.
