This guide is for Samsara-managed macOS laptops. If you use Windows, see Enrolling Okta FastPass on Windows. If you use a Windows 365 VDI, see Enrolling Okta FastPass on Windows 365 (VDI).
This guide walks you through how to enroll in Okta FastPass and use it to sign in to Samsara apps without typing your password, using a Samsara-managed macOS laptop.
🚫 Important — Shared Device Users: Do not enroll Okta FastPass on a shared or kiosk device. FastPass is tied to a specific device and account, and enrolling on a shared device can lock other users out of their accounts.
Step 1 — Enroll Samsara Account to Okta FastPass
- On your macOS, click the Okta Verify icon in the menu bar, if not visible open Okta Verify App from Applications and then
icon will be visible on the menu bar.
- Click Add account from another device on the Okta Verify welcome screen.
If prompted, allow Bluetooth access. If Bluetooth is disabled, enable it from System Settings > Bluetooth.
On your mobile device, open the Okta Verify app and tap on the arrow to the right of the samsara.okta.com account.
- Scroll down and tap on the “Add Account to Another Device or Export Account” button.
- If biometrics (Touch ID, Face ID, or fingerprint) aren’t already enabled for Okta Verify on your mobile device, enable them now when prompted. Biometric verification is required to securely add your account to another device.
Your phone will display an 8-character code below the QR Code (ref. the image below). Enter that code on your macOS when prompted.
- Your macOS will then display a 6-digit PIN. Enter that PIN on your phone to confirm the connection.
- When prompted, confirm with Touch ID on your macOS to bind FastPass to this device.
You are now setup with Okta FastPass, move to Step 2 on how to use FastPass.
Step 2 — Sign-in using Okta FastPass on your Mac
After your account is added to Okta Verify and bound to your Mac with Touch ID, FastPass is ready to use.
Go to samsara.okta.com in your browser.
On the sign-in screen type in your username and click next.
When prompted, confirm with Touch ID. You should be signed in without entering your password.
Note: FastPass is enabled per device. If you get a new Samsara-managed Mac, repeat Step 1 on that device.
